This past Saturday, three FSWAS music students
competed in the instrumental state solo and ensemble festival competition.
Jujuan thorn and Dominique Clemons received a rating of superior, the highest
rating to receive during the festival while Andrew Dickenson received an
outstanding rating of a two. Congrats FSWA music students on an excellent
job.
Several business professionals of America students attended the state leadership
conference in Grand Rapids over the weekend. The students did a great job
representing southwestern academy. Chris Burtley ran for a state office
position and was elected state secretary/treasurer and Tymesha Pittman
earned an ambassador torch award for her civic and community service. Both
Chris and Tymesha will have an opportunity to attend the national leadership
conference in Reno, Nevada in May. Congratulations BPA students for all
your hard work and dedication.
*SW wrestler Quentin Lefear qualified for the state wrestling meet at the
palace of auburn hills. Quentin finished the season with a record of 37-7.

Saturday, march 1, the SWA string orchestra participated at the MSBOA
festival at Flushing HS receiving a first place rating in prepared musical
selections
and an overall second place rating for the whole festival; congratulations
to our outstanding orchestra.
*Congratulations to Henry Snowden. Henry presented his senior exit presentation
for the 2nd time to a panel of individuals. The panel said that Henry
did a fantastic job. His slide show was excellent. Henry will is featured
in
a county wide power point presentation which will be shown to other schools/students
throughout Genesee county. Henry was also recommended for an apprenticeship
program through general motors.
*On March 1, Ta’keila McNeal competed in the regional level of
HOSA (health occupation students of America) a competition where over
400 students
throughout the region compete in different health skills. She was a finalist
and received 2nd place and will compete at the state level.

Fyi
Poetry month is just around the corner and it is time for all our talented
poets to enter the fswa poetry writing contest. Hand in your poems
to mrs. Sullivan in the library. Please submit one poem only. It should
be an original poem. Language and content must be suitable for school
publishing. The deadline is march 26. Winners will be chosen by a committee
of teachers. There will be 1st, 2nd and 3rd place medals and prizes
but all poems entered will be displayed outside the library.

AP exams are $85.00 each. A $15.00 deposit is required to register with
the balance of your test fee due
April 10, 2008. If you have questions, see your ap teacher or Mrs. Edwards.
Registration fees are to be paid in the main office. The deadline for
registration was March 24th, 2008
Seniors: Jostens delivery dates are April
9 and 23 and may 9 from 11:30-2:00 in the community room. All orders
must be paid in full in receive orders. After may 9, students must pick
up orders in Davison
Swa backpacks are for sale in the main office for $25.00;
proceeds benefit girl’s basketball.
Teachers
and students please remember that
all sales of anything conducted at school must be approved by Mrs. Edwards.
Anyone currently conducting a sale of candy or any other items that have
not been approved must stop immediately and have the sale authorized
by Mrs. Edwards before continuing.
Seniors: a reminder to pay your senior dues of $25 to Mrs. Thomas in
the main office; seniors should also start clearing debts at this time.
Juniors – west point military academy
is hosting a summer leaders seminar in june – to qualify, you must
have a cumulative gpa of 3.7 or higher, pursue a college prep program – have
strong psat scores, and demonstrate leadership potential, such as being
a class officer, team captain, etc. – a website for info is available
on the main office bulletin board.
