Our students were all smiles as they enjoyed High Five Friday this morning! Every Friday in January, we’re starting the day with positivity and school spirit.
At 7:30 AM, music filled the building as staff came together to high-five students as they arrived and walk with them from breakfast to first period—setting the tone for a welcoming, supportive, and energized day.
Smiles, music, and high fives truly made for a great start to the morning, and our students loved it! 💙

What a fun and memorable Family Night! 🎉 Tonight ALA"s Principal Mr. Russell and his family went head-to-head with SWCA Principal Mr. Dompreh and his family, and both teams did an amazing job. Congratulations to Team Russell for taking the win and earning theater tickets to see Black Violin! 🎻👏 Families from ALA and Southwestern came together to enjoy an evening filled with laughter, fellowship, and delicious food from Big John’s, all while cheering on the teams and joining in the fun. A special shoutout to Ms. Campbell, who did an outstanding job as our game host, keeping the energy high all night long with the assistance of Mr. Ibrahim running the game! We also extend our sincere thanks to Ms. Maggie, Parent Facilitator at Southwestern; Ms. Williams, Head Secretary at ALA; and Ms. Shantaram, Southwestern School Improvement Coordinator, for helping make this event such a success. Community, connection, and fun at its best! 🩵🖤🩵 #JagNation #SWCA #ALA #FCS

Greetings, Southwestern families,
Following our earlier communication, I want to clarify and provide additional context regarding metal drinking cups. This was intended to be a recommendation and NOT implementation of a new policy. Policies are implemented by the board of education.
While we support students staying hydrated, metal cups have increasingly become a distraction to the learning environment and can be misused in ways that compromise safety. In some cases, these containers may be used to conceal prohibited items. Additionally, if dropped, thrown, or used during a physical altercation, metal cups can pose a safety risk to both students and staff.
We recommend that students bring non-metal, clear bottles instead.
We appreciate your partnership in helping us maintain a school environment that prioritizes safety, learning, and accountability for all students. If you have questions or need clarification, please feel free to reach out.
Thank you for your continued support.

Michigan law requires school aged students to be up to date with their childhood immunizations. Every student is required to have up to date immunization records on file. If these records are not provided, that child is not allowed to continue attending class. If you have received letters and calls about your child not being up to date, your child's classes will be closed upon return from winter break. Please see attached documents for more information on how to ensure your child's classes do not get closed. Our goal is for no child to have to miss class time due to this requirement. Please visit your child's primary care doctor or the local health department to receive the required documentation. I hope everyone has a beautiful and restful break!

Scholars will be off Monday, December 22nd through Friday, January 2nd for the Holiday Break. During this time, district offices will also be closed. Students and staff will return Monday, January 5th.
