🎉 PBIS 3D Printing Event Success! 🎉

Today marked our first-ever PBIS 3D Printing event, made possible through an awesome collaboration between our Library Team and PBIS Team!

A huge thank you to Mr. Ibrahim for walking our students through the entire 3D printing process. From start to finish, students were fully engaged, asked great questions, and were so excited to see their ideas come to life! 🖨️✨

Students will be able to pick up their finished 3D projects on Tuesday, and we can’t wait to see their final creations.

What a great example of hands-on learning, creativity, and teamwork in action! 👏💙

Another successful Parent Meeting with ALA and Southwestern! We were excited to welcome the newest Family Engagement Facilitator from ALA, Mr. Boyd, to our school community. Parents received a warm welcome by our FCS board member Ms. Perkins. Parents had the opportunity to hear important highlights and updates from Ms. Shantaram, School Improvement Coordinator, along with valuable information from our Community Health Advocate, Mis. Pam. Mr. Turgeon our attendance agent shared important information and spoke about the NFL celebration. Ms. Barber shared information about our PBIS initiatives and welcomed Ms.Shaw our new Title 1 counselor. We were also grateful to have Ms. Betts representing the Flint Center for Educational Excellence and a special presentation from Mr. Ortega of Consumers Energy, who shared information about free products available to support our families. Gift cards and snacks were provided, but most importantly, meaningful conversation and connection filled the room. A special thank you to our dedicated parent facilitators, Ms. Maggie and Mr. Boyd, for helping make the morning meeting such a success. WINTER BREAK REMINDER:
Scholars will be off for Winter Break on Friday, February 13 through Monday, February 16. District offices will be closed Monday, February 16 in observance of President’s Day. Scholars and staff will return Tuesday, February 17.

🏈 NFL Celebration Day was a huge success! 🎉 Today, our students were celebrated in a big way during the "Never Fail League" celebration for all the hard work they put in to earn it! During second hour, students were recognized with certificates, gift cards, shirts, medals and snacks as we honored their achievements and commitment. The fun continued with life-size games like Jenga, Connect Four, and corn hole, plus tons of action and games in the gym. The energy was high, the smiles were nonstop, and the joy was contagious! Our students had an amazing time, and we are truly elated to celebrate their successes. Days like today remind us how important it is to recognize effort, perseverance, and growth. First, our no cell phone policy remains in effect so that students can stay focused, engaged, and fully involved in their learning. When cell phones are out, they often become a distraction from instruction, assignments, and meaningful classroom participation. Please be aware that a second cell phone offense results in a confiscation for the remainder of the semester which is June 11, 2026 . These expectations are in place to support academic success and create a learning environment where students can do their best work. We appreciate your partnership in reinforcing this expectation with your student.

Josie the therapy dog made a paws-itively wonderful visit to our students as part of our PBIS program! 🐾💙 Smiles were everywhere as students lit up the moment they saw her. She brought plenty of wagging tails, warm snuggles, and calming joy to our school day. 📚✨ Senior Series at the Flint Public Library ✨📚 Today’s Senior Series session with was another powerful moment in this 8-month journey of preparing our students for life after high school.  A dynamic panel of guests shared their HBCU college experiences and spoke about the importance of applying for college early. Students had the opportunity to ask thoughtful questions, engage in meaningful dialogue, and gain real-world insight into college life and the application process. The level of student engagement was outstanding, and the conversation was inspiring and informative for everyone in the room. Thank you to our panelists, and the Flint Public Library for continuing to create spaces that empower and educate our students as they plan for their futures. 🎓🙌🏽 #southwestern #JagNation #FCS

🎉 Congratulations, Mrs. Lossing! 🎨 We are excited to celebrate Mrs. Lossing, our incredibly talented art teacher, who has been awarded a $100 check from the Flint Classroom Support Fund to purchase much-needed art supplies for her classroom! Her passion, creativity, and dedication continue to inspire our students every day. In addition, the Flint Classroom Support Fund and the Bishop Trust are proud to recognize and uplift student artists across Southwestern. From February through May, one student artist each month will be selected to receive a $25 Michael’s gift card to purchase art supplies for use at home, along with a certificate that will be proudly displayed in their school. Students will be recognized as their artwork is showcased in our display, highlighting the incredible creativity and talent within our Flint community. Did you know that Flint Community Schools has a School Wellness Program? This state grant funded program provides for nurses in every school building and clinical therapists at DTM, Freeman, Holmes, and Southwestern! I am looking for parents and community members that may be interested in sitting on this program's Community Advisory Committee. This committee meets at least twice a year to discuss the program and look at ways to improve its services, to best provide for our scholars.
