⚡🚗 Our students had an electrifying experience today! 🚗⚡

Students in Mrs. Hatfield’s, Mr. Nelson’s, and Mr. Dumoulin’s classes enjoyed a special visit from an Energy Educator who shared exciting information about the future of transportation and electric vehicles (EVs)!

Students learned:

🔋 The benefits of electric vehicles

🚘 Common myths and facts about EVs

🌎 How clean energy is shaping the future

The interactive presentation kept students engaged and excited about innovation, sustainability, and future careers in technology and transportation.

🎁 As an added bonus, students received carabiners, had the opportunity to enter for an Amazon eGift Card, and learned about the fun rEV Challenge where one lucky student — along with their teacher — could win an electric bike! 🚲

We were honored to welcome Mr. Sean Knurek and Ms. Mary Kucky from Hamilton Community Health Network to Ms. Lester’s health classes! They engaged our students in an important and meaningful conversation about the stigma surrounding mental health and mental illnesses. Their openness, knowledge, and real-world insight helped students better understand the importance of compassion, awareness, and breaking down barriers when it comes to mental health. #Southwestern #JagNation #FCS

Huge congratulations to our Flint Jaguars Boys Varsity Track team for an outstanding performance at the Algonac Muskrats Classic! 🏅🐆 The fellas showed up ready to compete, giving it their all and representing Flint with pride and determination. Their effort, teamwork, and commitment were on full display, and it showed in their results on the track and in the field. Our Student Government lead by Mr. Lajewski had the unique opportunity to participate in our annual courthouse visit with the Honorable Judge Christianson, and it was truly an eye-opening experience! Students were given an inside look at the judicial system, engaging directly with professionals who play a vital role in upholding the law. They heard from Judge Christianson and a variety of court representatives who shared valuable insights on legal policy, courtroom procedures, and the responsibilities within each role. Students even had the powerful opportunity to witness a real-life verdict, bringing their learning to life in a meaningful way. A special thank you to the guest speakers from the court administrator’s office, court IT, prosecutor’s office, deputy director of facilities and maintenance, Judge Perry, clerk’s office, sheriff’s office, director of security, jury duty administration, and the resource room. Experiences like this help our students connect classroom learning to real-world applications while deepening their understanding of how justice is carried out in our communities. Today, Ms. Hatfield's classes, along with several of Ms. Heck’s students celebrated Earth Day by picking up trash around the school. Throughout the day, 47 students participated and collected an incredible 1,756 pieces of trash around the building. This effort was part of a challenge we learned about at a conference last year: the #GreatLakes1Million Challenge, organized by Great Lakes Great Responsibility. The challenge includes communities across the Great Lakes Basin, extending beyond Michigan. At the time, Flint had not yet participated or been recognized in the challenge. Linda and I decided to accept that challenge, and we are incredibly proud of our students for stepping up and making a difference. These students will also be awarded an hour of community service for their hard work and dedication to our community! #southwestern #JagNation #FCS

Our Senior Series continues to inspire! Today, our seniors had the opportunity to listen, learn, and engage in meaningful discussions with two incredible entrepreneurs. Mr. Bey shared his journey and insights into the world of beekeeping, giving students a unique perspective on sustainability and business. Ms. Wagner also joined us to talk about her business, No Two Stripes Alike, and what it takes to turn passion into purpose.
