On Thursday, May 21, 2026, student representatives from Mrs. Roberts’ Southwestern Biology classes proudly presented their projects and research at the 2026 Flint River Green Student Summit held at Kettering University.
Students joined several area schools, including Mt. Morris, Lake Fenton, Kearsley, and Genesee, in sharing environmental research and innovative ideas focused on protecting our community and waterways.
Our students received high praise from professionals Darren Bagley and Tom Jones, who complimented their presentations and thoughtful research regarding the release of salmon and sturgeon into local waters. They spent additional time engaging our students in meaningful problem-solving discussions and exploring solutions connected to the environmental concerns presented.
Throughout the day, students participated in engaging environmental sessions including the DNR’s Flint Rivers Native Fish, the City of Flint’s CSI Robotic Pollution Control, Vectors of Spread, Creek Critters, Farm Animals, and a community art project presented by the FIA. One of the highlights of the summit was meeting Chad, the City of Flint Environmental Compliance Unit’s service dog specially trained to detect the presence of E. coli in wastewater.
We are incredibly proud of our Biology Ambassadors for representing Southwestern with excellence, professionalism, and curiosity. We look forward to continuing our involvement in future community forums and environmental initiatives! 🌎🐟💚

Today, Flint Southwestern Classical Academy hosted the powerful UNITE Arrive Alive Tour® — the nation’s #1 ranked drunk and distracted driving awareness event and home to the first-and-only marijuana driving simulator in the country.
Students had the opportunity to experience firsthand the dangers of distracted, drunk, and drugged driving through a high-tech driving simulator that demonstrates real-life consequences without real-life risks. This life-changing event is designed to educate teens and encourage safe driving choices that can save lives.
A huge thank you to UNITE, Michigan OHSP, the Transportation Improvement Association, and Farm Bureau Insurance of Michigan for partnering to bring this important program to our students and community.
