Excellent job to our SWCA students, Jacobey Richards, Latanganay Stewart and Briyanna Wilson who presented at the board meeting last week. They talked about the 2024 HBCU tour they were invited to during Spring Break. It was a free trip for them, hosted by the Clingman Foundation and Blake Odum's Foundation valued at $800.
There were a few others who attended the trip as well and we applaud them all. Our student's articulated and represented Southwestern Classical Academy with decorum.

Flint Community Schools extends a heartfelt thank you to all those who generously donate their time and talents to support our scholars and staff. Your volunteerism makes a difference in the lives of our scholars.
Please mark your calendars! Kindergarten Round-up on May 2, 2024: We are thrilled to share that Flint Community Schools will be hosting our annual Kindergarten Round-up, an event dedicated to welcoming our newest scholars into the school community! This is a wonderful opportunity for parents and children to learn more about our FREE kindergarten program, meet our dedicated staff, and begin their journey into elementary education. To help accommodate our FCS families who would love to ride the bus with their children the date has been changed from April 23rd to May 2nd. We are thrilled to witness the enthusiasm within our school community.
Today our students: Blair Coleman, Ny'riah Mayes, and Ahmirrah Blair were selected to attend a special event to meet Dr. Mona Hanna-Attisha for a one-hour forum with other high school students from the Genesee County to discuss the Flint Water Crisis for the tenth anniversary at the Flint Public Library.
She read an excerpt from her book able book, What the Eyes Donāt See: A Story of Crisis, Resistance, and Hope in an American City, engaged students in a Q & A and discussed:
-The impact that environmental factors have on childrenās development.
-What has changed ten years later.
-How are the children of Flint doing now?
-Lessons learned.

On Friday, April 12, three students from Southwestern Classical Academy sang solos at State Solo and Ensemble Festival. These students qualified for this event in January, sang one piece in a foreign text and one piece in English, and then they sightread a short passage. Aāvionna Laboy and John Lynch had never qualified for State before and they both got a Division 1 (Excellent) rating. Micaiah Brown has qualified for State before and he also got a Division 1 ( Excellent) rating, and he was just one point away from a perfect rating. Congratulations to all three students on this great accomplishment at the state level.
The picture is A'vionna Laboy, John Lynch, and Micaiah Brown celebrating their Division 1 ratings after all their scores came in. The blue colored medals symbolize the Division 1 rating.

Here are some tips for taking tests:
1. Go into the test with confidence. In other words, make sure youāve done enough studying to feel confident that you know the material. Staying
confident makes it easier to remember everything you need to know.
2. Get enough sleep the night before the test. Your memory recall will be much better if you've had enough sleep. A scientific study showed that people who got enough sleep before taking a math test did better than those who stayed up all night studying.
3. Listen closely to any instructions. As the teacher hands out the test, be sure you know what's expected of you.
Read through the test first. When you have the test in front of you, go through it to see how long it is. This will let you estimate how much time you have for each section and ask the teacher any questions. If something seems unclear before you start, don't panic: ask.
Answer the questions in any order. As you take the test, if you don't know an answer try not to get stuck on it. Instead, answer the question the best way you know how.
