Flint Community Schools Southwestern Classical Academy High School June 3, 2025 Dear Southwestern Classical Academy Families and Community, Today, out of an abundance of caution, we enacted emergency procedures at Southwestern Classical Academy High School to ensure the safety and well-being of our scholars and staff. Earlier in the day, a suspicious letter was discovered attached to a barrel near our school grounds. While we could not immediately determine the nature or intent of the item, our priority was the immediate safety of everyone in our school building. In response, we quickly evacuated the building and safely relocated our scholars and staff to our designated evacuation site. We immediately contacted local law enforcement and emergency personnel, who responded swiftly and thoroughly to assess the situation. At no time were our scholars in direct danger, and thanks to the rapid and coordinated efforts of our staff, emergency responders, and community partners, the evacuation proceeded in an orderly and calm manner. Please be assured that we followed all safety protocols and procedures, and we will continue to work closely with authorities as they investigate the origin and content of the suspicious letter. The safety of our scholars, staff, and school community remains our highest priority. We understand that incidents like this can be unsettling, and we are committed to maintaining open and transparent communication with our families. If your scholar has questions or concerns, our school counselors and support staff are available to assist them. Thank you for your continued trust and partnership as we work together to ensure a safe and supportive learning environment for all.
This morning, we took immediate safety measures out of an abundance of caution, and we activated our evacuation protocols to ensure the safety of all students and staff. We are grateful for the quick response of our team and first responders. All students and staff are safe; a detailed letter has been sent home with students and is also attached here for your reference.

Greetings Southwestern Classical Academy Families, This morning, a concerning note was discovered on campus. In response, we immediately initiated safety protocols, which included evacuating the building to ensure the well-being of our students and staff. Our scholars were safely transported to our designated evacuation site at a nearby church while law enforcement conducted a thorough investigation. We are grateful to the Flint Police Department and the Genesee County Sheriff’s Department for their swift response and support. After approximately three hours, the building was given the all-clear and deemed safe for re-entry. We want to reassure you that the safety of our scholars and staff remains our highest priority, and we will continue to act with urgency and care in all matters of school safety. Free sports physicals are scheduled to take place on May 30th from 1-5 pm. These will be held at Holmes in their family engagement room. You must reserve a time slot through the Signup Genius and complete both forms in order to receive the physical. Please see the school coaching staff, main office, or nurse for assistance with receiving the forms to get completed. This is an opportunity to be prepared for the upcoming sports seasons!
